Michael Eric Dyson on Obama

Michael Eric Dyson on Barrack Obama. All I can say is wow. For the first time I really feel what he is saying. The question was asked "Are people voting for Obama just because he's Black?" and he responded with this. "..You can be a female articulating and anti-female proposition. You can be a negro articulating racist perspectives because the plantation is portable and your mouth becomes the freeway for it's articulation." What do you say to that. The metaphor is so deep that it takes a while for understanding. What Dyson was trying to tell people was that one must understand that what you are expected to defend and who you are expected to offend may not be your status quo. I was floored by him when he said that. He says when Obama is president he will not "Solve everyones problems." This is said prodominantly to Blacks. This takes place at the State of the Black Union, A conference that takes place once a year where Blacks come to speak on National and International Issues. Good Job Dyson.

  1. Wow, that's a pretty powerful statement right there. And I definitely agree with that idea. I feel like we've sort of come full circle as people. We went from ignoring the issues and looking at his race to paying attention to the issues during the debates to ignoring everything but his greatness.

I feel like now, with Obama having won the election, people stopped caring about the issues because it's not about comparing them to McCain's decisions. Sure, he is going to help, but the American people have royally screwed themselves over with this economic crisis, and it won't take a black president alone to make the hateful loving, the rich humbler, and the poor richer.

Sorry if that seemed rather tangential, but I have to admit, this is a lot to think about. It was a pretty hard entry to comment on.
