Michael Eric Dyson on Obama

Michael Eric Dyson on Barrack Obama. All I can say is wow. For the first time I really feel what he is saying. The question was asked "Are people voting for Obama just because he's Black?" and he responded with this. "..You can be a female articulating and anti-female proposition. You can be a negro articulating racist perspectives because the plantation is portable and your mouth becomes the freeway for it's articulation." What do you say to that. The metaphor is so deep that it takes a while for understanding. What Dyson was trying to tell people was that one must understand that what you are expected to defend and who you are expected to offend may not be your status quo. I was floored by him when he said that. He says when Obama is president he will not "Solve everyones problems." This is said prodominantly to Blacks. This takes place at the State of the Black Union, A conference that takes place once a year where Blacks come to speak on National and International Issues. Good Job Dyson.

How do we feel about the N-Word?

One of the most controversial words in the English Language. Michael Eric Dyson feels that in order to be able to connect to the other people other of color, the word Nigger must be accepted and not shunned upon. I almost went crazy when I saw this on youtube. The fact that this man has the audacity to try to justify the N word by putting a bunch of big word behind his explaination is just apauling. I know that the history of the word means ignorant, but it plays a very negative role in the live of Blacks. When racism was running rampid in America the word was used to degrade many African Americans. The ironic thing as an African American is that we have embrassed the very word that we fought to destroy. Does it make a difference that the word is acceptable just because Black use it on one another? Dyson thinks so. I just cant agree.

Michael Eric Dyson (Mr. Controversial)

Michaeal Eric Dyson. Graduate of Princeton University. Professor as the University of Georgetown and the most Controversial Person that i will ever read about. I wonder greatly how a man of this prestigious education can have the ideas that he has. I know that America is known for it's freedom of speech but something has got to give. Before I even get into his books I want to focus on his youtube clips. The first one I looked on was his overall look at the newest book that he had published on Hip Hop. Dyson believes that there is good and bad and the so called "Ugly" sides of hip hop, but he believes that there is more of an overall positively perspective in hip hop. I beg to disagree. Apart from having great sound of music, Hip Hop has given us negative conotations on people, places, and life. I do not believe that there is more of a good in the Hip Hop Culture when women are degrated, sophistication is looked upon as weak , and Ignorance is praised. I do enjoy hip hop, but I will never believe that there is more good in the world of Hip Hop than Bad.

Michael Eric Dyson

Wow this is my first major project ( i mean three month project). My author is Michael Eric Dyson. I pick author because it was a blistering 60 degrees and i was in the library, utterly confused. Mr. Walsh asked us if we needed suggestions on who our author should be. I look at him like i had a good idea, but on the inside i had no clue. I didn't know of any authors that i would seriously do a report on but what the heck. I walked up to Walsh and he said "based on your personality i would go with a type of spritual view. He gave me a couple of good ones, but there was a name that i had never heard before. Micheal Eric Dyson. I had no idea who he was but he said that he was very interesting. I soon went o the computer and saw that this guy was very controversial and went against some of the things that i believed in. He is a very big supporter of Hip Hop and Rap Music. didn't really know what to say, but i want to see how an educated man can think this way. I was in. I hope to find out how one with such good education could support things with such negative connotations. I guess im going to find out.
